Guys,
How do you all feel we can improve on OUR league for next season?

How about this......
1. More regular season games (30-32). 2. Old Met League style playoffs so the League Championship means something. (Neutral site perhaps?? Montclair, Newark??) North Haledon does a great job with their field, but the lights are no good and it is not fan friendly. 3. Possible "League" affiliation with NABF (I have no idea as to how it works however, perhaps Danny could help out with this). 4. Make the AABC our "secondary" affiliation.....always a good idea to have more teams go away to play.
How's this for starters......

AABC WILL ALWAYS BE THE #1 PRIORITY OF THIS LEAGUE, LIKE IT OR NOT. I ACTUALLY BELIEVE MORE TEAMS WILL BE LOOKING TO PLAY LESS REGULAR SEASON GAMES, DUE TO MANY REASONS. THE 1ST BEING THAT MANY TEAMS WON'T PLAY BEFORE JUNE 1ST, WHEN THEY HAVE A FULL ROSTER OF ALL THEIR COLLEGE PLAYERS. THUS MAKING MORE THAN 25 GAMES IN A MONTH AND A HALF IMPOSSIBLE TO SCHEDULE. NEUTRAL SITE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IS POSSIBLE, ALL WE NEED IS $$$ TO GET EITHER YOGI OR NEWARK OR WHEREVER FOR THE FINAL GAME. BUT THE REST OF THAT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT HAS TO BE PLAYED AT A LEAGUE SITE, DUE TO COST.
WE CAN DEFINITLEY KEEP OUR AFFILIATION WITH THE NABF. THEY LOVED HAVING TEAMS FROM JERSEY THIS YEAR, FOR THE 1ST TIME. IT WAS A VERY WELL RUN TOURNAMENT WITH GREAT COMMUNICATION BETWEEN TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS AND THE TEAMS. IN MY OPINION, ANY ONE OF OUR TOP TEAMS, WITH A FULL SQUAD, COULD HAVE WON THAT REGIONAL AND BEEN ON THEIR WAY TO LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY THIS WEEK FOR THE WORLD SERIES.
MY MIND IS SHOT RIGHT NOW AFTER A LONG AND WILD SEASON. IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS OR SO, I WILL POST A FEW OF MY SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE THE LEAGUE AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LEAGUE OFFICIALS/MANAGERS/PLAYERS, WHICH I FEEL HAS TAKEN A MAJOR STEP BACKWARDS THE PAST YEAR OR 2.
GREAT SEASON THIS YEAR BY EVERYONE INVOLVED, HOPE ALL TEAMS ARE BACK NEXT YEAR!

my favorite part of the AABC is that their World Series ends today with a 5pm game but their web site still has the 2004 results. You don't even know the teams involved or the results for 2005. Glad to see everyone is off Danny's back, he did nothing wrong. Ed, you are right this league WILL always be AABC affiliated. But the league might be 2 Haledon teams facing 2 other teams 10 times a season. Like Farber qouted Albies as saying, "the reason dinsaurs became extinct, along with the old Met League is because they failed to adapt". Let's hope people will learn from the past. The NABF had: 1. beautiful manicured fields that were lined, raked and taken care of between innings. 2. 2-3 league officials at every game 3. double elimination format 4. PA announcers for each game 5. 50-100 fans in the stands each game because they had schedules, results, and writeups in the local papers. 6. A hotline for teams to check scores of other games 7. A bracket board for all teams to see when they played, vs who, etc 8. the national anthem before each game 9. terrific umpires who were always on time 10. great communication 11. a regional president who was always on hand to answer questions. As far as fields if you need any info or help a former manager of mine in The Brunswick Men's Open runs the Raritan Valley Baseball League as President and manages in the Brunswick League. He is always co-ordinating fields in Atlantic City, etc, and Newark for their All-Star game and championships.
I know the league has many contacts...just offering some info and trying to help, as I don't know who knows what or whom.

Does the Bergen Record even acknowledge the league exists anymore? Perhaps we can work on rebuilding relationships with local NJ papers to get some ink!
How about a preseason tournament......charge admission, donate half to a charity....hopefully make enough to pay for the championship game at Newark!
Collectively, if we throw out enough ideas.....we may just have something.

There are lots of issues that need to be solved.
This board is a great way for people to voice their opinions and HOPEFULLY someone will be paying attention.
I would hate to see North Haledon having to play 3 other teams 6 times during the regular season.
I have seen that act before and Act II is the league folding...remember the Met League.
Keep the opinions coming...I love the positive feedback.
That is how improvements can be made.
Even though the field does not have lights, and it can be difficult to get to, William Paterson just got a BEAUTIFUL facility.
It is something to think about.

There it is. The first great idea for next season. A pre-season tourney. That is a great way to get the season going. Let's do it, double elim., we can use hacks and n.h.'s fields. Think about it, it is a great way to get the blood flowing with a little bit of pressure. Let's build off this. What does everyone else think? what does the winner get? do we keep stats from the tourney? Troy Longo

With only so many years left to keep playing at a high level I don't care if North Haledon plays each other in intersquads 27 times. If the powers that be don't want to change or do what we, the league, wants then Tough shit on them. I'm not worried about anybody else but the Hackensack Troasts. I hope my friends on other teams get what they want out of summer baseball too. But those in the league who have other agendas can hang with the dinosaurs, the old met league, and New Kids on the Block for all I care. Rick Lutz
