Hey, what's the deal with the NABF tournament? Is that this coming weekend? I heard a rumor that Ramapo Valley is going? Is that true?

hmmmm....something is rotten in denmark. If I remember correctly there were 4 teams that made it to Saturday in our league tournament:
Hackensack Cresskill Franklin Lakes Teaneck
So Cresskill beat Teaneck and the Lakes so that put Hackensack and Cresskill in the Albany tourney and Franklin Lakes was going to the Connecticut tourney. The Teaneck Stars finished 4th in the league tourney despite a sub-.500 season record. When did the format change to allow the 5th place team from our league tourney to go to Connecticut while the 4th place finishers get passed over?
Also, why was this not announced at all about Ramapo Valley going to the NABF? I hope this was not intentionally kept hush hush to avoid a controversy....
Finally, why even have a playoff if you are just going to take the regular season record into account when choosing playoff teams (Ramapo obviously had a much better regular season record than Teaneck).

It's great that Ramapo Valley is doing well in the tourney! Good luck and make us proud.
With that being said, why are they there? If this is based on regular season records, why isn't Cliffside Park there instead?
Since our league tournament was "supposed" to determine who went to the tournaments.....this is an absolute disgrace.
While I'm on a rant, why didn't Hackensack play Cresskill for the league championship? I've read that Cresskill "forfeited" and Hackensack are the champs!?!
I think we need to bring a little more pride back to this league. Let's determine championships and tournament participants on the baseball field.
"For the love of the game".......I know we still all possess this!

Here's what I know:
Here's an E-Mail I got from Danny that I received on Monday, August 1st:
Henry, The NABF has extended an invitation to Ramapo Valley, to play in their regional. This is not a freebie, and would cost me around $600 to enter. I have spoken to Frank (Franklin Lakes), as I want to make sure he gets the players he wants for the tournament. I would have to arrange the divisions a little bit, to meet their rules that is why I spoke with Frank. I wanted to keep you informed. This is happening because a team from NY pulled out, and they needed an answer ASAP. I stress this is not costing the league any money If you have any questions let me know. Danny
We had no problem with this but we told Danny to call Teaneck and work it out with Jorge since they would technically be next in line with the spot since they advanced further than RV in our tournament.
Thanks, Henry

LET ME TRY TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT HERE...DANNY WHITE, BY HIMSELF, REGISTERED OUR LEAGUE WITH THE N.A.B.F. JUST TO GIVE ANOTHER TEAM IN OUR LEAGUE A CHANCE TO TRAVEL AFTER THE SEASON. SO THE POWERS THAT BE AGREED THAT OUR 1ST AND 2ND PLACE TEAMS WOULD GO TO ALBANY FOR THE AABC REGIONAL AND OUR 3RD PLACE TEAM WOULD GO TO CONNECTICUT FOR THE N.A.B.F. A WEEK BEFORE THE N.A.B.F. TOURNAMENT, THE N.A.B.F. PRESIDENT CALLED DANNY AND SAID THEY HAD A CANCELLATION AND THEY NEED ANOTHER TEAM. SO DANNY CONTACTED THE POWERS THAT BE IN OUR LEAGUE AS TO WHO SHOULD GO. THEY TOLD DANNY, "YOU'RE THE PRESIDENT OF THE N.A.B.F., GO IF YOU WANT TO" SO WE CAME TO CONNECTICUT TO KICK ASS. THAT'S THE STORY.
ANYWAY...WE ARE NOW 3-1 AND IN THE SEMIS TOMORROW MORNING. DON'T LIKE IT...TOUGH SHIT! WE HAD TO PAY $600 TO GET IN THIS TOURNEY. WE PLAY NEW HAVEN TOMORROW TO GET TO THE FINALS AND ADVANCE TO KENTUCKY. LUTZ, BUTCH, AZZ, LOBBAN, CROHAN, AND VAN ES HAD NO PROBLEM COMING WITH US TO KICK ASS. EITHER DID A NUMBER OF TEANECK PLAYERS I PERSONALLY CONTACTED TO COME IF WE NEEDED THEM.!! HOPEFULLY MY NEXT POST WILL BE FROM KENTUCKY NEXT WEEK AS WE REPRESENT THE MAJORS-MET LEAGUE IN THE N.A.B.F. WORLD SERIES!

P.S.--THE ONE THING THIS TOURNEY DOESN'T HAVE...IS O.C.'S SNATCH CATCH! ;D ;D ;D

Let me be clear MR. 101 Pub.......I wish you all the best in getting to the NABF World Series! I hope you ARE representing us in Kentucky. The Ramapo Valley Yankees are a class act.....you're even looking good in Yankee pinstripes!
All I'm saying is that after struggling through a very difficult regular season, we were able to come together at the end to finish 4th in the Tournament, with our two losses coming against Hackensack and Cresskill. We were still playing when you guys went home.
Just go kick ass, take names, win a championship, and bring me back some crazy glue for my shoulder so I can face you guys next year!

Stars,
This is the first I heard of this. Why would I sit all day trying to get everyones home address just to decline a tournament in Conn.. Bad Job by the President, there was never a call to me about being skipped over. Henry, I believe that you owe an explanation to my team. They missed work and left work early to make a tournament. If Franklin Lakes declined then next in line. If Ramapo Valley can't make it to at least the fifth round they should not go anywhere but home. I heard many negative things about this league when I was at the stan musial meetings and they are not far off after this one Henry. To put words in my mouth and make me look like an ass saying i can't field a team is way far from the truth. I coached 28 games in this league as a rookie coach and not only fielded a team but beat your #1 #2. We made it to the Fourth round and there is word that I can't field a team. Pleasssssssee!!!!!!, 9 years coaching college baseball. Ask anyone I have coached and have played ball with if I would have passed on a tournament.
Henry, Please respond to my team, because Danny never spoke to me. As far as money is concerned my team is square with all transaction, so money was not an issue.

Jorge, 1st of all, the NABF extended an invitation to Ramapo Valley because they were short a team and Danny had to response as soon as possible. Our League had nothing to do with it.
When we found this out and we had no problem with it but Angelo told Danny to be fair he should call you and work it out with you since your team would technically be next in line with the spot since Teaneck advanced further than RV in our tournament.
I never said you couldn't field a team.
I never said you owed any money.
For RV to go to the Tournament they had to lay out $600 up front, plus money for rooms and food.
Like I stated before, the NABF extended an invitation to Ramapo Valley and the North Jersey Majors Met League had nothing to do with it.
Jorge, this was done very fast and the NABF needed an answer ASAP. When I found out about it I didn't think it was a big deal but Danny should have contacted you before he went to the Tournament. Maybe he tried and couldn't get you and he had to give an answer right away. I am sure he didn't go behind anyones back, as he has always been straight forward with all of us in the past.
Thanks, Henry

Here are the facts about the NABF and the North Jersey Majors.
The North Jersey Majors-Met League is not involved in the NABF. The North Jersey Majors-Met League is an AABC league.
I formed the NABF league to give one more team in are area a chance to compete in a tournament. I invited the other nine teams in the league to register. We then made a working agreement with the North-Jersey Majors that the third place team (franklin lakes), would get the spot in the regional.
Of the ten teams that were supposed to register and turn in their NABF roster, only Hackensack,Cliffside Park,North Haledon, and Ramapo Valley turned in a legal roster. I handed out copies to each team, but the other six teams did not bother to turn their roster in.
I honored the spot that Franklin Lakes earned, and called the national office to see if Franklin Lakes could still play. During the course of this conversation, it was brought to my attention that a team from Buffalo had pulled out of the tournament. At this point Ramapo Valley was invited to play. I called up Franklin Lakes told him what was happening, and gave him first choice of players he wanted to draft.
We were planning on going up with Ramapo Valley, and some players from North Haledon. After Hackensack was ripped off in the AABC Albany tournament, we asked a few of their players to play.
During the course of the season, on the phone, internet and in person I tried to inform the teams of the NABF and what was required. Honestly no one cared, and no one showed any interest. I did not take the spot of any team in the league. By letter of the rules we only had four legal teams that could compete on a national level.
