Here is some food for thought heading into the meeting: I don’t know if this will ever get done but here goes…. After some encounters with the guys in the NJABL, it seems as though they believe they have a superior league because according to them they always beat our teams in the playoffs. I had a brief encounter with them when I tried to recruit players for next year and also from what I saw when they posted some nasty comments attacking Lutz on their league’s message board when he was just looking for games for Hackensack’s schedule, this league needs to be shown who is better and have their attitudes adjusted. I see an opportunity here to create a great rivalry and spice up amateur baseball in North Jersey, getting some media and hopefully fan attention as well as putting some snot-nosed wise asses in their place. Here’s how:
1) We challenge them to settle this argument on the field. We first: A} Challenge the NJABL to a regular season set of interleague games. Their top 9-10 teams against our only 9-10 teams one day during the regular season. Different sites and matched up by where the team stands in their respective league so top teams play top teams and basement teams match up with basement teams. I can guarantee we would do no worse than 2 losses in 9 or 10 games. This is an easy way to prove our league is much deeper in competitive balance. Also the league with more wins in those games earns home field advantage for a…. B} North Jersey Series. Yes, a series between the 2 top teams in each league with a bid to the NABF regional on the line. Loser goes home. If our team wins and doesn‘t want to go to NABF in favor of AABC then the NABF still goes to someone in our league. NJABL loses their chance at any bid with a loss here because they have no other affiliation. Our second bid is decided in our league tourney by the same type of playoffs that have been in place for our league. The juice comes with having only one regional to go for. How devastating could it have been for Cresskill to lose to Ramapo this year when they didn’t have to go home? This is good for our playoffs and regular season race also. Games have more juice when someone has to go home.
I think that a true rivalry like this would be good for our league. Its much better than the ho-hum playoffs of the past season. Regional bragging rights are at stake here which I still think would be more satisfying and memorable than what a team does in regionals. I personally did not care what happened between Hackensack and Jet Box up in Buffalo but I do know I would care what would happen between our champions (possibly Hackensack if they return or someone else of that caliber) and their best (ie. Nyack or Demarest) in a North Jersey winner takes all series. I think this type of thing is what the league needs along with all star games and awards to bring it up to a more premier level. The worst that can happen is the NJABL refuses the challenge and proves that they truly don’t believe their league is better.

Let me tell you Bruce they won't play. Even when they were talking shit about me or Hack. they did it anonomously so you don't know who to confront. They will make excuses but they won't play. There are a few teams who will play anybody if there is an open date like Paramus, Saddlebrook, and I had good talks with Demarest but that game was rained out multiple times. The rest don't want any part of playing. The most common reason I got was that they didn't have enough pitching to pick up an extra game. The league is not nearly as good. I will throw out a challenge of Hack. will play every team in that league once in a 3 week span and guarentee we won't lose a game. But they won't play. Alot of the guys who run teams in that league are good guys and I had good talks with them and even a game or two but the majority want no part of a challenge like that.

Rick, Im sure you are right but I still say we throw it out there and make them say no. That way they have no leg to stand on when they make the comments they do.

Maybe we should propose a similiar competition with the Mel Ott or Lou Gehrig leagues? Just kidding.....
Good Luck with these meetings hopefully they can help propel our league back to where it needs to be. As a player in this league for the last 12 years, its nice to see such a high level of involvement from my Skipper Danny White. I also notice Jorge on here and Bruce, hopefully the rest of the managers are getting involved in similiar capacities but obviously outside this forum. All will be needed to get anywhere. I thank all for their efforts and I look forward to another season int the summer of 2007.

Guys I have been a part of NORTH JERSEY Baseball in some aspect for the past 18 yrs from playing, score keeping, and currently coaching. I read your board and follow your league simply for the fact that I love the game and know many of the players. I can't understand why people are bashing us in the NJABL.. It is what it is (amateur baseball). I don't know where the idea came across of anyone bashing you guys on our message board. Why all the comparisons and animosity towards our league. Every team is in our league because they enjoy the game regardless of talent. Do some teams have more than others of course they do . The bottom line is the teams play because its competition and we enjoy it. We don't compare our league to yours because their is no reason to. We have no reason to bash anyone we just try to make the best league we can have. Their is no need to issue challenges. You have your own league instead of comparing it to ours why don't you just try to make it is good as you possibly can... My team was asked to play an independent game against Hackensack and we did. We have no hard feelings towards Hackensack or any other team in your league so I would appreciate the bashing to end..Who really cares if the #9 team in our league plays yours or any other number..It proves nothing any team can beat any team on any given day..In the end is it really going to make a difference

The teams in the Musial felt they weren't getting a fair share of playoff spots and didn't like being forced to move up to the Majors. A bunch of meetings took place between the 2 leagues, and many things were agreed upon. Then people went back on the agreements and their word, depending on who you talk to is who you can blame. Either way, the Musial "leaders" decided to start their own NABF affiliated league and are doing well running it. Ed

Mupo, First of all, I want to thank you guys for playing us this season. As I stated there are teams that play anybody anytime( your team being 1 of them). But in my experience from this season. Many teams have some animosity towards either the majors league or my team. Some of the managers I spoke to were very nice even if they were turning us down but many of them were not happy when I called them back to see if we could find mutual off dates to play. Like they were pissed that they answered instead of screening the call. I could care less which league thinks they're better or which is better. I think my team is better than them all but thats just my opinion. That being said as a neutral party between the leagues who was looking for games I felt there was an underlying tension between the leagues on both sides. Or, again, it could have been against my team. But whatever, thats my opinion. We'll see what happens. Would like to play you guys again next season so if it works out I'll see you next year. Later

Why are the 2 leagues not working as 1 to form a great league?
