I have found the posts on this subject very interesting and informative. I live in Westchester County and attend a lot of the games of the Westchester Rockland Wooden Bat league. I when to the tournament in Hackensack in 2005 (not this years Mayor"s tournament I was in Omaha at the CWS) which I enjoyed watching. I attended a well played and exciting double header in Teaneck, N.J. this year. I found the game on the league web-site and found a number to call to see if it was going to be played. In Amateur baseball many times the games are cancelled at the last minute because of field conditions, field conflicts or just last minute changes. That is why the web-sites are very importent to keep up with up dates on games. The newspapers are not going to keep you up to date. From time to time they print a General interest story or report a particular game but they don't give you daily up-dates on schedules and league standings. The league I follow in Westchester (WRNABA) has a very good web-site and each team maintains there own site on the league site. They also shown directions to there playing fields in written format not mapquest. Next year if I am able to get the schedule and directions on the NJ web site I will attend more games. I also agree with the posts on the subject that it was a bad idea for Hackensack to drop out of the league and only play independent games with other teams. Does anyone know if they played in a NABF regional tournament and if so how they made out? I went to the regional tournament in West Haven, CT so I know they were not in that one. Anyone interested in looking at the WRNABA website or any other amateur baseball site can go to http://www.//eteamz.com.

Being that I am still a relative newcomer to this league and thus far have had limited success I wont ask for much of a say in what goes on. It does look like something is in motion from dialogues on this board, and after everyone is through meeting, brainstorming, etc. there should be a league meeting mandatory and ASAP so these ideas can be presented and voted on. As I have said my Belleville Indians will not be back but I am working on bringing a new look team into the league with a few of the Belleville guys on board, so I want to know what direction we as a league are going in so I know if it is worth the effort it is going to take on my behalf to put a much better, more organized team on the field for next year. I have to start turning the wheels now so I have a better situation team wise for next year. This league can be great and I plan on competing at a much higher level with my team next year, so lets get these wheels turning so we can all get better as a league. On a side note, I think who has been involved in running this league have done a terrific job and I think with more team involvement and new ideas it can get to a higher level. There are obstacles as its hard for baseball to compete with the Jersey shore in the eyes of our current college age players, and things of that nature, I think we are dealing with a different mindset with that particular generation, but I do believe we can build this up with college grads who still taste the desire to compete in this game at a high level. Thats where Im at and thats what Im looking to find with this league. We do need college players yes, but we should also be active in recruiting those who are done with college and make this the only baseball that matters to them. With that type of player as the primary player of this league, we can do things like play a longer schedule without worrying about the BS you get from pre-adult college players. I ll put in the time and effort to recruit this type of player and I hope we can have a meeting soon to get the ball rolling for 2007.

Ill say it one more time it was NOT a bad idea for Hackensack to drop out and play independent schedule. We were 5 outs from the World Series. If we were in the league would those 5 outs have been easier to get. Maybe it took us leaving to shake things up a bit. But it was NOT a bad idea. You don't know what you are talking about if you feel that way. We did it on OUR terms the way WE wanted and still got inches from our goal. Rick

Rick, I dont think I or anyone else can say what the best thing for Hackensack to do is, but I do believe it would make the league stronger if you guys came back. Not saying whats in Hackensacks best interest but for the NJ Majors/Met League it would be best because it would add both quantity and quality to the league. More games and the best competition for the league as a whole. Speaking only for myself, I absolutely agree that the league champion should have the choice of what regional they want to go to. That being said, if you came back to the league and we can vote on that subject, I would vote the same way as you. You can do what you want its your team, but I think it would make the league better if Hackensack was back in it. Bruce Daddis

Rick you never stop amusing me, even when you are serious!
Vatch, unfortunately I am unavailable tomorrow night, as I would have liked to attended and give my 2 cents before I sail off into the sunset, as this has been my 16th and FINAL season in the league.
Azz and I will be more than happy to keep voicing our opinions here as well as in the right field parking lot at playoff games! ;D
Seems like there are alot of people interested in improving the state of the league, which is a real good thing. Communication is a huge thing this off season.

Nate, Its cool that you mention your beloved INJUNS in every post, I dont know you personally, and I dont know if its a mockery of our team or you just being funny. I do get a chuckle out of it when I see it though. I just want to make a point in reply to your post on p 1 of this blog. You say that the NJABL has 12 bad teams and the Met League had 2-3 bad teams. I disagree. I know my team had a bad record, but I dont think we are in the same neighborhood as the basement of the NJABL. We were pretty competitive in this much better league and on alot of nights we were one hitter or one pitcher short of taking more games. Thats why I got so frustrated with the lack of commitment I got and screamed my head off. Nonetheless, I saw a game between Westwood and Teanecks Angels in that league. Westwood was a 15-10 playoff team in that league. I have to say from what I saw, if I put the basement teams of the Met League in that league, they would at least reverse their records and be in the top 5 of the entire league. (Thats including your Injuns!). I actually considered putting the Indians in that league (NJABL) so they could be more competitive but my players, to their credit, would have none of that and showed it when they played much better baseball in the 2nd half with little support. I guess most of my players going AWOL could be a case of addition by subtraction. However in any event, I respectfully disagree with that one statement you made. Bruce Daddis Former Belleville Injuns

Bruce
Absolutely no slight intended against the Injuns meant whatsoever by the "Go Injuns" comment. Also, no slight meant whatsoever for the lower teams in the league with the 2-3 bad teams comment in my response to the record. I should clarify that after playing one season, and basically being an outsider looking in on both leagues, that its all relative. While there might have been 2-3 'bad' teams in the Met League this year, those teams would be killers in the NJABL from what I saw. To me there is really no comparisons between the two leagues. All the credit in the world to anyone playing up a level and battling instead of playing down and mashing weaker competition. Challenging yourself is the way to go... And for the record, the Injuns that I saw were pretty competitive in spite of what your record showed. After seeing you guys play a couple times I wondered with the nucleus of guys you have, why you were having such a tough season. You have met me personally, at the JV field in Bellevelle, I was the guy coaching first the whole game... with the super hot chick jogging... Need to keep you guys around just for that fact. So keep it up, good to see you haven't just packed up even though you guys went through your struggles... Ive been there before..
